Rössing Foundation assists with youth skills assessment and profiling in Arandis
Arandis mayor Daniel Muhuura focused on motivating a group of young and upcoming entrepreneurial Arandis youth during a Rössing Foundation sponsored youth skills assessment and profiling session held in the town. During the engagement Mayor Muhuura stressed the importance of youth development and reiterated that strategies put in place by leaders must be of a such a nature that it translates into tangible enterprise development opportunities and benefits to business minded young people.


The Arandis Town Council and the Rössing Foundation through the Arandis Sustainability Development Project (ASDP) has made it a priority to ensure that Arandis becomes a centre of excellence in education, hence the committment to create a data base annually to do skills assessment and to identify training needs.
To date 80 young people have benefited from this initiative, some of which have established businesses whilst others went on to furthering their studies to gain more skills to become economically contributing residents of Arandis.
According to the mayor, Arandis is fast becoming known as a booming and vibrant town thanks to strong partnerships, transparent and focused leadership and serious investors, making huge investments in realizing the town's aspirations of economic independence. In speaking to the attendees he added that “A lot of resources are put in place to make sure that the ones that are incorporated to undergo skills upgrading are not taking the opportunity for granted. I place a lot of expectation on the beneficiaries to fully utilize the fact that you are young and full of energy and to concentrate on your studies so that you shape a better future for yourselves."

In motivating the crowd he said: “We live in the information age with the latest, updated information at the fingertips of those who seek it througth the Internet and other technological advances of the last century. What you do with the information will in the end determine the outcome. We have invested in you to take up the opportunities that we are currently seeing so be aggressive and market your skills. Strive not only to become an employee, but equip yourselves to create employment for others as well."
The skills assessment will now enable the partners to work out a future plan for the beneficiaries by availing the necessary resources.
