As part of the broader work within the Erongo Region, and with due regard to the cumulative impact of the current and upcoming uranium mines in the Region, the Foundation joined hands with the Arandis Town Council to lobby Government and private health institutions to establish health facilities in the town. The Ministry of Health and Social Services was also lobbied to appoint a social worker to render services to the town's residents. The Foundation supports health interventions by working closely with institutions specialising in health and social issues, including HIV/AIDS, orphans and other vulnerable children, and primary health care. These institutions are the Namibian Parenthood Association, the District AIDS Committee, and Catholic Aids Action.
The current influx of job seekers to Arandis due to the mushrooming uranium mining and exploration sector is expected to put pressure on, amongst other things, health service delivery by the Arandis Town Council, with negative social consequences. Mitigating mechanisms and strategies need to be put in place, therefore.
